A long-time favourite way for individuals to quickly get a web presence, blogs are now increasingly being used by companies to get their message out and connect with their customers.


WordPressWhy are blogs gaining so much traction?

Because their structure (using tags, categories or labels) makes it easy for both people and the search engines to find their way around the site. That makes blogs very SEO-effective, which means they get lots of visitors from the search engines.

WordPress is the top blogging platform available today.

An Open Source project, WordPress is free to install on your own server and is almost infinitely customisable.

Originally intended as a blogging platform, WordPress can be configured to look and act like a traditional web site.

This is great for commercial applications where you can set up a site in the normal way, with a Home page and Product pages - and you can have a totally integrated blog.


ThesisOne of the advantages of WordPress is the enormous range of templates (or themes) that are available. This allows you to create any kind of look and feel for your site that you want to.

I use the Thesis theme, which is a highly customisable template. Click the image to the left and scroll down to the gallery to see some of the creations made using Thesis.

Because of the power and flexibility of Thesis I use it on all the WordPress installations I set up.

WordPress is an ongoing (and very active) project and new functionality is being added all the time. Also, new plugins (user-friendly ways of adding different functionality) are being released continuously.

So running a WordPress blog is an ongoing exercise as both it and the plugins need to be maintained and updated.

If you're ready to set up a blog for your company, but don't want the hassle of maintaining and updating it, I will happily do that for you.
